Introduction.
With many smart products today, interaction design often leans toward complexity. More buttons, more swipes, and more to learn can lead to confusion rather than clarity. Some devices have explored futuristic interfaces requiring awkward gestures or constant attention, only to find that these can interrupt more than assist.
Our perspective is a little different: complex results do not require complex processes. Even G1 doesn't aim for "how much can be done," but rather "how it can be done effectively."
That's why from the very start, we aimed to build an interaction system based on just two simple, intuitive gestures. The outcome is the TouchBar—a minimal yet complete interface, seamlessly integrated at the temple tips of your glasses.
Read on to discover how the TouchBar was designed and how to use it.
The design principle: intentionality as a design tool.
Designing simplicity isn't about cutting features; it's about choosing what truly matters and ensuring every gesture has purpose. The core question we faced was: How can we enable more, using fewer gestures?
The answer lies in assigning clear intent to every input. We built the TouchBar on three guiding principles:
- Intuitiveness: Tap and hold are naturally distinct actions—easy to understand, and quick to learn.
- Symmetry: Both temple tips share similar logic, allowing smooth transitions between modes without having to remember which side does what.
- Context-awareness: The same gesture adapts to the current app context, so you don't need to remember complex mode switches.
Every design choice supports one goal: helping you do more while thinking less. In the next section, we'll show how these principles come to life through the TouchBar.
What is TouchBar and how to use it?
The TouchBar is a discreet interaction strip built into the temple tips of Even G1. By simply tapping or holding it, you can take notes, ask Even AI, scroll content, and more—hands-free and distraction-free. Every interaction is designed to feel as natural as possible.
Below is a closer look at how each movement on the TouchBar is intentionally mapped.
Gesture | Left temple | Right temple |
---|---|---|
Tap | View Notifications / Scroll up | View QuickNotes / Scroll down |
Press & Hold | Ask Even AI | Take a voice note (QuickNote) |
Double tap | Exit current application | |
Triple tap | Mute / Unmute |
Explore different features: what TouchBar lets you do.
QuickNote.
Let your thoughts speak for themselves. Reading a book, in the middle of a commute, or lying in bed—ideas don't wait. With QuickNote, you don't have to either. Just press and hold the right TouchBar as you speak, and Even G1 captures your voice and turns it into a structured, searchable note. No typing, no stopping — save your thoughts with a touch.
How it works:
- Press and hold the right TouchBar while you speak (up to 30 seconds). Let go only after you finish your sentence.
- If you're online, your voice is sent to a cloud-based LLM and turned into a clean, titled, and tagged note—ready for review in the app or right on your glasses.
- Offline? Your voice is stored locally and processed automatically when the connection is restored.
- You can also manually edit or pin important notes via the companion app—your thoughts, your way.
Teleprompt.
Teleprompters are an important part of all types of presentations. You're in the middle of a presentation. The room is focused on you and you need to be focused on them. With Even G1, your script is right where you need it—in front of you, not buried in paper or on a screen.
To start, set up your script in the app. Then use the TouchBar on either temple to move through your content without ever looking down.
How it works:
- Open the app, tap "Teleprompt," and upload, import, or type your script.
- Choose from three scrolling modes: automatic following, manual control, or fixed speed.
- In all modes, TouchBar gestures keep you in control. A tap moves you forward or back, without breaking your flow.
Even AI.
Ask anything at any time. Staring at a painting, walking past a landmark, reading an article—questions appear when you least expect them. With Even AI, answers are one gesture away. Press and hold the left TouchBar, voice your question, then release. Floating text appears in your view, giving you the insights you're looking for.
How it works:
- Press and hold the left TouchBar, ask your question, then release.
- The built-in assistant processes your speech and delivers answers directly in your line of sight.
- Make sure to set the correct voice input language under "Settings – Speech Language." Mismatched input may prevent Even AI from functioning properly.
Conclusion: designed to disappear.
We believe the best interface is one you can forget. With only two core gestures—tap and press & hold—you can navigate the way, use QuickNote, ask Even AI, and present with Teleprompt. Do it all without needing to learn anything new. The TouchBar is designed to be a simple, reliable tool that makes powerful technology feel effortless, allowing you to stay focused on what matters most.
